Immune-system 'adjustment' medicines
These are immunosuppressant medicines and you should not increase or decrease these therapies without discussing with your IBD Specialist Team. While on these treatments, blood monitoring is required and we recommend the following if your symptoms are stable.
Azathioprine & Mercaptopurine
Blood tests should be performed at least every 12 weeks to check Liver Function, Full Blood Count, Urea and Electrolytes and Inflammatory Markers. Your GP will have received a copy of the Northern Ireland Shared Care Guidelines for Paediatrics.
Please note: Always ensure you are taking your medication as prescribed by your IBD team. DO NOT ADJUST YOUR DOSE. More frequent blood tests will be required once you start this treatment.
